About this place
Sinking into a meal of deeply marinated Kanoya amberjack sashimi or fragrant grilled fish alongside fresh rice brings a quiet rhythm to everyday dining. Located on the 1nd floor of the Maeda Building in Nishi-Waseda, Toden Table Waseda offers a broad selection of Japanese set meals centered on fish and chicken.
At the heart of the menu is akabara, a variety of greater amberjack raised in Kagoshima's Osumi Kinkowan Bay. Preparations showcase its versatility, from marinated Kanoya amberjack sashimi highlighted by a savoury soy sauce marinade, to a spicy sashimi version tossed in a house chili-and-sesame-oil sauce, and grilled amberjack collar served with marinated sashimi on the side. Other ocean offerings include salt-grilled Gin'o silver salmon sourced directly from Kesennuma, as well as a daily seafood set featuring fresh salmon, tuna nakaochi (rib meat), and soy-cured salmon roe.
Beyond seafood, warm dishes include crisp agedashi tofu soaked in gentle dashi broth and chicken nanban draped in a sweet-and-sour glaze. For those wanting a bit of both, combination sets offer pairings like dashi-fried chicken alongside marinated amberjack sashimi, or crisp fried chicken alongside the same marinated fish.
Each set includes rice and miso soup, and diners can round out their tray with small additions such as raw eggs from free-range chickens or boiled whitebait. A drink list featuring small bottles of Heartland beer, Takenotsuyu Brewery's Junmai Miracle from Yamagata, and Kogika sweet potato shochu from Kagoshima makes an evening meal just as leisurely as a solo weekday lunch.
